Convert Documents to PDF for Kindle to Keep Formatting Intact

Convert Files for Kindle without Losing Formatting

So you have finished your document and are ready to send it on its way to amazon to be read on the Kindle. Will you be trusting Amazon to convert the document or will you doing the work yourself? This question must be addressed because you may not like what you get if you let them do the work. If your document contains absolutely no formatting then yes please go ahead and let Amazon’s SendtoKindle service do the conversion for you. (see video)
But if you want to have some special formatting areas in the document then you will want to make some changes before you send it off. Indented paragraphs, bullet points, fonts, and page numbers can all make the final product on Kindle look absolutely terrible with paragraphs strung together and mashed on each other. So before you send off you book either make sure it has no formatting or it is converted to Amazon’s code for Kindle.

Convert to PDF

PDF is a document type that has been around for more than 20 years and has gone through many upgrades. Ever wonder how many PDF documents there are in the world? Probably a number I would find hard to fathom. PDF files are so plentiful and successful for a very good reason. The PDF traits that make is so great are accessibility and familiarity. Almost anyone with an electronic device these days can view a PDF and it looks the same and prints the same on everything! The style and format are also extremely familiar to computer users and most can navigate around them with ease.
Many workplaces use PDF to exchange information because it is so familiar and uniform looking. Imagine if everyone was using different documents to share work and you had to use or download a unique program for each type. To change those documents you would have to have the same software it was created in. It would slow everything down and be a logistical nightmare. We almost take for granted the ease of using PDF.
Using Adobe’s services you can covert Word to PDF, Open Office to PDF, Text to PDF and virtually anything you can think of. Take time to learn how to format your specific file type like word before you send it to PDF because the text, font and colors may be altered from the original version when you convert. You can also use a browser bookmarklet, like this one that converts webpages directly to a pdf file. But once it’s converted it will remain the same from then on.
